There’s something about this time of year that feels different in the most subtle, beautiful way. The air softens, the days become a little quieter and the light changes everything. It becomes warmer, lower and more flattering, it’s the kind of light that instantly adds depth and mood.

Now, if i'm being honest, we’re not Europe. We don’t have endless streets lined with vibrant orange trees dropping leaves in every direction. Shepparton’s landscape is more understated than that. It doesn’t scream Autumn! But that doesn’t mean we miss out on the feeling of it.

I can still create the atmosphere for my portraits... I’ve learnt how to find those hidden pockets of colour, how to use the light to its full advantage and how to bring everything together to create that warm, dreamy vibe.

Sometimes it’s about choosing the right location. Sometimes it’s in the styling, the tones you wear and the textures you bring into the frame.

Autumn has a way of softening everything. People feel more relaxed, less rushed and more present. And that always translates into the photos.

It’s one of my favourite seasons to photograph for that exact reason. There’s a depth to it that you don’t get in the brighter months and a calmness that allows everything to feel a little softer. So while Shepparton might not typically give us the dramatic autumn vibe, I can still find a way to create it.
